Test Balloon

As part of the training, we have to do several observations at schools.

We can do the observations here, or elsewhere (basically anywhere that has an AMI Montessori school).

So, I'm looking at, maybe, trying to go elsewhere, if I can do it reasonably economically (basically, if I have people I can stay with.*), and figure out transportation.

The dates are October 3-7, October 24-28, and November 14-18 (continuing through the 22nd, if I need the days, which I don't plan on).

Anybody got a couch they want to pimp?

*I'm a good house-guest. I can and will hang pictures and shelves and babysit and cook some, and I gladly and without complaint sleep on the sofa

If there's a school here, we'd be happy to. ALSO! If you did the 24-28 one, you could stay through the weekend and run amok with us!

Ooooooooh. How far are you from 35W between 40th and 41st Streets W? There's one there.

[identity profile] e-juliana.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I tried looking it up, and I'm not sure. If it's the one I'm thinking of, about 5 miles. We're pretty central to downtown - right behind the Walker Art Museum, if you need a landmark.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. 4-5 miles. But not bad on the busses. Hmmm. Lemme talk to my Course Assistant.

You've got a place in Chicago any of those dates.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! What part of Chicago are you in?

[identity profile] brendalu.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in Lakeview/Wrigleyville.

[identity profile] chikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a Montessori school a few blocks from my house (http://www.wsms.org/). I have a couch avail for either of the October dates if you don't mind a nosey but loving cat.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That one (and this is a common problem for me in looking for places, as most of them don't) doesn't go up through the elementary level. There is one in Northbrook, though.

[identity profile] chikat.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Northbrook is about 1 to 1.5 hour commute from me and you'd def. need a car. But, the offer still stands!

[identity profile] mearagrrl.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No idea if there are DC Montessori schools, but you're welcome to crash on my couch any time, if the commute back to where you're staying would be onerous. Or you just want to hang. (Though, um, until the November one, you'd still be welcome, I just wouldn't actually BE there, as I"ll be at work)

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. That may be really useful come the spring, and student teaching.

[identity profile] larisa57.livejournal.com 2005-09-07 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
You're always welcome to my couch.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Danke!

According to Google and Mapquest, there's a Montessori school in downtown-ish Denver that's roughly 12 miles from where I live. If you don't mind a large dog and a fat cat, you're welcome to my guest room for either of the second two dates. I won't be back from SF until October 4th or else I'd offer for the first dates also.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. I'm looking at the AMI website, and the only one in the area that's certified for kids up to 12 (we can go to schools with an AMI teacher, even if it's not, but, with the info I can find online, I'm looking at AMI schools). There's one in Boulder, though. Is that an evil commute? I have no sense of scale.

[identity profile] charlotte-buff.livejournal.com 2005-09-09 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm in a suburb called Wheat Ridge so Boulder is roughly 25 miles from me. If you're able to rent a car or if you're able to drop me off at work and pick me up, while still getting your own stuff accomplished, it's possible. Other than that, I'd think the bus would be an option but I've never tried to bus to Boulder.

[identity profile] charlotte-buff.livejournal.com 2005-09-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oops. Forgot to mention that, AFAIK, the traffic isn't too bad heading into Boulder in the AM and out in the PM. Most of the traffic is heading the opposite direction at both times.

[identity profile] spectralbovine.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
You know my couch is open.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and then you'd get a job, and move, and leave me there with no where to sleep.

Actually, I'm not finding a school in Ann Arbor, but thanks!

[identity profile] trudybooth.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Mi coucha est su coucha.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oddly enough, there are no AMI schools for older children in NYC (There's one on Long Island). Does that seem right to you?

[identity profile] cass404.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
Spare room is open, anytime. (Okay, I made you sleep on the couch once but it was kinda a comfy couch...) You are very welcome here. Puppycat agrees. Or is chirping randomly, it's hard to tell.

[identity profile] cass404.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
Also? You can carve a mean roasted chicken. I appreciate that in a houseguest.

[identity profile] debetesse.livejournal.com 2005-09-08 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Aw. Say hi to the Puppycat.

There's a school East of the 15 on Old Grove Road. I'm lost on the geography of that, though.
